Thanks for dropping by. My name is Guy Clapperton. I’ve been a tech journalist for 30 years and I want to share my insights.

I’ve called this site “The Near-Futurist”. I attend a lot of conferences and I see a lot of people calling themselves ‘futurists’. They forecast what’s likely to happen ten, twenty, even thirty years from now.

Here’s a secret. Many of them are brilliant. It would be invidious to name names but there are a handful who, if you get the chance to see them speak, you really should.

Here’s another secret, though. If you want to change your thinking in a way that’s going to benefit your business right now, you don’t want to know what’s likely to happen in thirty years. You want to know what’s happening now. You want to understand the stuff that’s going on down the road and that you haven’t heard about yet. You want to hear what the competition is doing that you’d have sworn was some way off in the future.

That’s what I’m here to tell you about. I publish a podcast (help yourself), I speak at conferences.

Welcome to the world of the near future.
